Productivity a subsidiary of Collabora focusing on LibreOffice support and
services for whom I work.
Also if you have the time to read this sort of stuff you could enlighten
yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here.
Failing that, there are all manner of interesting things to read on
the LibreOffice Planet news
feed.

Up late, breakfast, mended N's blackout blind, caulked
around some others, hook for E.; read The Economist, out for a
run with J. Helped H. with op-amps, lunch, jig-saw puzzling,
got to some recreational hacking in the evening. Up late with H.
and E. waiting for the new year.
-
Spent much of the morning manually weeding the (porous
resin & gravel drive) - odd to see grass growing through it;
switched to pressure washing it instead - lets see if that helps.
-
Turned a chess-bishop with new lathe chuck: good.
Made a pair of hooks on which to mount step-ladder in the
pantry.
-
Up late, David over - got H's window adjusted to reduce
the breeze in her room; setup new chuck on lathe - looking good.
Put up new security camera, and cut down broken doors to fit the
garage. Dinner & puzzled until late, picked up H. from Melvyn's.
-
Breakfast, and out for a walk to the 'big park', back
for a big fry-up together; bid 'bye & drove home - babes
got on with homework. Watched The Mentalist with the
babes, got on with a puzzle from A'.
-
Up early, breakfast packed. Off to R&A's for a
fine lunch, got sucked into Erik Grankvist log cabin
building while playing games, chatting & relaxing
variously. Lovely to play with the boys - lots of baby /
battery power-tools deployed.
-
Breakfast; B&A left, S&C&A&J over
in time for lunch. pub quiz, took the dog for a walk on
the heath; played the pillow game and other in the warm.
Watched The Princess Bride in the evening &
talked until late.
-
Slept well in N's blacked-out room; up - E. mis-read
the clock. Stockings - pleased to have one for the parents too.
Breakfast. Babes opened secret santa presents. Out to All
Saints for some carols.
-
Back for a walk to the Queen's statute; fine roast
turkey lunch; present un-wrapping action; puzzling fun, lots
of snacking and slugging variously. Caught up with M&D,
babes played rumikub and Among Us.
-
Final admin bits, house tidying left & right.
B&A arrived mid morning, lovely to see them. Bread &
cheese lunch, played some games, sung some carols, JPs &
salad for dinner. Babes tried to get A. into the Mentalist.
-
Last minute end of year invoicing admin thrash; grateful
for turning the bottom of people's budgets into Free Software in
2022.
-
Pleased to see what we've achieved in 2022 with a nice
Thank
You blog from the marketing team.

Back to Newmarket, out for dinner with Simon N, caught up
with J. bed.
-
Appalled to see Princeton E-mailing a list of a
million organizations to burn their resource in order to publish
a paper. What possible cost/benefit analysis was done there - lets
assume (conservatively) it takes an hour to respond to (or discard)
their request in each entity - that's a million person-hours: five
hundred person years, ~10's of millions of dollars burned: to burnish
someone's academic credentials. And I thought that the security circus
had problematically assymetric costs; but this takes it to a whole
new level - wow. Horrifying; and given ten seconds of thought - a
totally predictable stain on the reputation of a great institution.
I imagine Ross Teixeira and Jonathan Mayer have inadventently
created several tens of person years of work for themselves in
responding individually to each organization affected; quite apart
from any disgruntled others piling load on the university left and
right.
-
All Saints - H. played organ, as did Peter; Carols. Lunch,
slugged, back in the evening with H. to sing for carol concert
with the town band. Watched The Mentalist with babes
variously, played Rumikub.
-
Up lateish, caulked curtain-rails (long over-due), filled
draughty window-sills with foam (or is it just cold air falling?).
Doner kebab for dinner as a treat with the babes; watched The
Usual Suspects.

enjoyed some time with her.

-
Up early; dropped J. down to Church - and returned some
tables & chairs. Back - lots of maths with E. David over,
chatted, lunch when J. & M. returned.
-
Put up Christmas tree together, sausage casarole for
dinner; maths & compsci with M. and N. in the evening; bed.
-
Mail chew; re-amazed by the crypto.com video: a popular actor,
an emotive sound-track, appeals to consumer risk taking; we have to be
close to peak-nonsense - surely? "History is filled ..." also
with egregious examples of speculative bubbles. Buying and selling URLs
that don't necessarily have anything backing them sprains my brain; but
then I'm still invested in Tulip
bulbs: growth is more organic there. Then again - I'm not hearing
'buy crypto' from children yet, and the world is awash with cheap money
so perhaps we have some time to the peak.
-
Georgie popped over with a ladder - oddly not ours; nice
to have tea.
-
Call with Eloy & Cor, mail chew; 1:1 with Cor.
N. out for a sleepover.

Lovely memorial service for Roy Starling featuring the
town band (now with 'mask' on their instruments interestingly) -
a wonderful, encouraging Christian Gentleman & musician -
sadly lost to COVID early in the pandemic.
-
David S. kindly helped M. and N. with their Physics.
