Interrupted sleep; bid a fond 'bye in the morning, drove home. Went shopping with J. slugged around trying to fix this and that around the house. Binge watched Jack Ryan with J.

Slept poorly, H. not well . Out to the Quaker meeting in the morning with Dad, M & E to setup tables. Home for some lunch.
Parents' fiftieth wedding anniversary dance and party in the evening - lovely to catch-up with the wider family, enjoy some fine food. Back to M&D's for more evening celebration. A wonderful blessing to have a faithful, stable family.

Up late, shreddies & bacon sandwiches; packed and drove north to see M&D. Greggs on the way. Set too sorting through bottles for the party, moving tables etc. R&A&tribe arrived in time for dinner.

Up lateish, breakfast, presents, did some lego assembly with E. Lunch, chat with H. took the babes to the park to learn to cycle & scoot with H. and M.
Played games, slugged about happily. Fine dinner. Collected M's phone from the play-ground late at night together.

M&D left earlyish, with S&C&A&J leaving a little later; lovely to spend time with them all. Packed, tidied, set off to R&A's. Got there, fine dinner, played games.

Boxing day, breakfast, B&A left earlyish. Out for a walk with the rest of the family along the nearby dyke. Back for a lateish lunch. Played games, watched Your Christmas or mine, did some sketching games, with J. & E. - worked on an tougher doughnut puzzle. Browsed food, chatted variously.

Up at a reasonable time, E. up since six - stocking opening action. Breakfast, off to All Saints - H. played the organ, and I fiddled with the stops.
Home, S&C&A&J arrived snacks, then fine Christmas roast dinner, break for present opening before Christmas pudding & feast of deserts.

Off into town to do some last minute shopping: located the elusive white toblerone for J. - back for lunch with B & A arriving.
H. played organ for the crib service.
Deep holiday mode, puzzling action with the family - a fine picture of York Minster & the shambles.

Up earlyish, out for a run in the rain with J. Got to E-mail, while Dad watched Colin Furze - fun, welcomed Anna, marvelled at the nearly 90 QA position applicants we've had in under a week. H. over to Christina's.
Leo dropped by with cookies, Tessa's mum came over to pick her up, had a chat; Dinner. Neil around for a chat.

Admin, mail, calls with Andras, sync with Noel, more admin, call with Lars too, review with Gokay - finally complete. Parents out to see Grant & Anne, Tessa around in the evening for a sleepover with N.

Project planning much of the day; end of year All Hands call and summary at midday. Long planning call with Andras, and review. Parents arrived, catch up with them in the evening.

Sync with Kendy & estimation bits, worked on reviews until late, with more admin & misc. tasks.

Planning call, interview, drove to the Bedford lodge, another interview, back call & offer on a Project Manager role, worked late.

All Saints in the morning, Peter on organ, helped to re-organize the church for the band concert in the evening. Fine pizza lunch & snooze in front of the football.
Dropped Sade to the station, picked up a frozen M. J. out to rescue David from a breakdown, played and sung in the Carol Service - with the Newmarket Town Band. Catch up with Chris & Robert, bed.

All Saints Christmas open day in the morning, lots of flower arrangers making the church beautiful for Christmas, managed to get some work done in spaces.

Not entirely surprised by the amount of back-lash to: libreoffice and blockchain. Was much more surprised to get a number of 'WTF!' pokes directly to me on the topic; your ire is mis-directed. For the avoidance of doubt I'm no longer on the TDF board, not on the LibreOffice Engineering Steering Committee (who AFAICS were not consulted), and was not personally part of any such discussions with Etherium (whatever its merits). I'm also skeptical of asking the internet for technical direction / ideas particualarly when there are lots of really obvious things to improve in LibreOffice - that we should be getting on with. These are well known. TDF's job, in my view, should be to get more involved with spending its donor's money - working constructively with the volunteers and companies: Collabora, RedHat, allotropia, NISZ, and others doing the heavy lifting in LibreOffice to improve it. Still, probably good to be in the news.

Some presentations, and got lots of interesting feedback from partners & customers - including how to improve next time. Out for dinner with the remainder, and back to the Radisson with it's in-door acquarium over the bar until late to catch up with the Nextcloud staff & customers.

Up early, drove to Stresa, train to Milan - met up with Italo who kindly showed us some of the sights, and the clothing stores: fashion. A really lovely meal at Renato Bosco's - enjoyed the Galeria, Doma, castle and company.

Train back to Stresa - raining encouragingly hard. Picked up some tea, home, watched Inception together; bed.

Drove up to the Simplon pass, had a short walk and lunch, drove over into Italy - after re-discovering some excitingly narrow cobbled streets managed to get into Villa Anna.

Swam in the pool at the hotel; got to know the local midges. Quested for missing Disney+ vs. listing - poked hosts; watched Interstellar together.

Up early, packed everyone into the car, and set off for Geneva. Visited CERN with the babes - great visitor centre and tour - but somewhat over-dumbed-down: needs more explanation of the actual physics for eg. A-level students: hopefully new visitor center will provide.

Impressed by old synchnotron - and 5m thick concrete walls - with giant sliding door, good AV presentation.

Shopping, off to Crans-Montana and the flat. Discovered the interesting things that can happen to a bathroom if every U-bend dries out and a year of ventillation brings not-so-fresh air through it.

Up - noisy city appartment living something of a wrench; walked into central Dijon and enjoyed a wealth of free culture: Museum of fine art, some churches, a rude museum - etc. Lunch in a small park, browsed shops with small girls, ice-cream, and home.

Watching these home videos of ammunition dumps exploding through glass windows gives me the creeps: the Halifax Explosion ended up with buckets full of eyes, after glass window fragments damaged so many watching the show from indoors.

Spent some time filling the skip with unwanted bits of junk & foliage with J. Managed to fall off a fatigued aluminium ladder while cutting the hedge: and survived with bruises - thank God. Ladder a write-off.

In time we will write up and publish the data more widely, make final donations to TDF and as/when sensible finish up some Mac work in due course. As TDF changes its approach to app-store packaging I thought it would be worth taking some time to look back and try to thank everyone that has done such excellent work over the years. I hope I didn't miss anyone - though of course I have several Linux packaging heros that are (arguably) not per-se app-store packagers I had to miss out: Rene, Petr, Fridrich and no doubt more.

David picked me up, collected Simon N too, off to Harwich to stay in an old fire-station with Men of Faith from All Saints. Chatted happily, enjoyed Beckie's cake, walked along the shore, fish & chip supper; up late.

Chased a nasty delta crasher - obviously each tile could only be compressed / delta'd once - it would be madness to have the same tile listed twice. Except - we do sometimes: added lots of assertions; fixed that. Lovely Ubisan stack trace dumping fixage from Andras pointed at exactly the problem immediately - lovely. Faster, and better too.

Planning call; mail chew - got my blog re-located finally to https://meeksfamily.uk/~michael after something of a hiatus caused by the demise of people.gnome.org - that lets me continue to be a dinosaur and generate RSS manually and so on.

Why is it always at the very end of the day, when I need to quit and emerge from my lair - that I'm most productive: in the 'stolen time' from my family? Perhaps this is the secret sauce behind the four day week ?

Discovered my blog is down - apparently I had missed the notification: bother; kindly provided with a backup of the last ~20 years of random up-loads/backups/slides & blog bits from there: 1.8Gb. Fond memories of when such things were stored at unam.mx in the very early days of GNOME.

Been wondering what to do about my blog anyway - some people complain(ed) about the personal content - it's not technical-enough and presumably ragged around the edges. They want a tag so they can ignore the personal pieces - and can instead get pure engineering updates - as if from some corporate entity. I'm not impressed by such requests for several reasons:

Hacker communities are made of people - not corporate clones: people are wonderfully different & have real lives, and interests. Its important to remember that communities are not this homogeneous professional blob - they are made of diverse experiences, viewpoints and interests.

Reminding people that their software is created and maintained by a fun but motley crew of random co-beligerents can stop them getting the idea that they get a polished, professional product for free - which is quite helpful for the ecosystem who sell that.

My blog is run from some legacy pybloxsm software from emacs and I have little-to-no time to adapt it to make it easier for people to read only the worker-bee part of it. They are more than welcome to read none of it.

My technical content is increasingly less substantial these days I fear - primarily I do a lot of sales and management which - while interesting & encouraging doesn't lend itself to early publication.

Have spent some holiday to catch up, and will try to get some new hosting.

Set too trowling the volume down with H's help.

Finally solved the plumbing issue by the evening; grim. You don't realize how wonderful modern sanitation is until it doesn't work.

Transferred H. money for university food & shelter.

All Saints, 2m Peter played the Organ well; sang with Mary. Bob spoke, home for roast lunch. Slugged vigorously; picked up babes from StAG in the evening.

Up lateish, breakfast with the crowd; got the garage tidied up again. Worked on J's counselling room facade - routed up the door sill, managed to take ~all the teeth off the circular saw removing the top 1cm of the frame: which made it substantially harder to cut with. Eventually cut it down to size.

FOSDEM slides, recorded & up-loaded video - looking forward to it; set to work on CS3 slides, talk with Simon, catch up with Gokay.

Helped N. tidy the house, picked up Charlie, and got to work making the garage habitable for boys: amazingly there is a concrete floor under the dust.

Lots of N's friends turned up for 17th birthday party & sleepover; good to see them, tried to teach several lads to play 'go'. Left them to it, 2:30am the singing stopped, 3:30 - boys out to the garage to sleep.

Wonderful to see the team release COOL 21.11 today - with all the goodness of CODE, and some new RTL functionality for our Arabic, Hebrew and other Indic users online.

Up early sawed a barrel in half to grow potatoes in for Father, re-arranged the garage contents a bit; lunch.

Drove home, sermon in the car, dinner with the babes; relaxed variously.

Up earlyish, breakfast. Got support prepared by Dad screwed into the attic, wire through, ceiling switch mounted and wired. Out to visit a friend of Mum's who kindly lent H. a lovely full-size Viola.

Home - back onto wiring with Father; a fine lunch. Drove H. to Durham, and managed to get her bits back to her study with E's help. Wandered through the Cathedral, and out for a coffee with her friend - lovely. Bid a fond farewell.

Drove home, dinner, watched Cinderella & had snacks with the parents.

All Saints with H. in the morning; dropped H. at the train, home for a Pizza lunch with Hannah, Nick & Joni played games with them; lovely to catch-up.

Out for a walk with J. H. M. E. - passed the somewhat extraordinary Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital: (Hedge-hogs, why can't they share?) - and had a nice walk around Ousden and admired what looks like a bunker on Back Street.

Spent some considerable time adding a lock to our en-suite toilet door; can finally put router & jigs away after their long service - good.

Hacking until midnight - ooh it's addictive; got compressed deltas almost working with zlib - lots of bandwidth and CPU savings left & right I hope.
