Up at 6.50, work by 8 - hmm, too early. Chewed mail.
Discovered that 'FCS' means 'First Customer Ship', in the Java world at least; pulled jdk-1.2.2 instead of 1.1.8. It seems, the mistake of using Java for OpenOffice build tools is substantially because of it's XML parsing, my non-Java build hacks died on officecfg, which could be re-written in C with libxml2, libxslt I imagine.
Discovered the OpenOffice configure script passing many variables into a 'set_eoenv' perl script as command line arguments; and 'pre-processing' the set_soenv.1 script by this cunningness:

- tried to get in touch with someone in-touch with OpenOffice.
Looks like Thomas has put up his Photos of the Boston summit. Remembered I had already signed a copyright wavier thing for OpenOffice apparently one of the first - see if you can get in the top hundred today ... Registered with 'IssueZilla' which is (apparently) where all patches have to go.
Did some nasty sym-linking hackery of /opt/OpenOffice/bits into /usr/local/magic to build. Discovered that it's extraordinarily non-easy to even view OpenOffice Issues [ ne bugs ], without going through some contorted logging in process. Did all that.
Tried to file a bug against the web page, went through a horribly contorted process of registration, only to find I still couldn't file a bug. And all of this to get a decent virtual CVS module. [ they need to use OO &helpcontent &transex3 &i18n... in their CVSROOT/modules, instead of '-a' really ]. It transpires Sander can't change the module list, eventaully mailed a collab.net person.
Lunch. Disk cleaning to make more space for various bits. It turns out that despite build 642 being the most recent, that it's horribly buggy, and far better and cleaner to use the OOO_STABLE_1 branch.
J' home, ham and cheese sauce - very good; Mary came round thinking it was Cell group, shared our strawberries with her - a most lovely, animated old lady.
Thomas watched 12 monkeys, and I left OO building overnight.
