Stuff Michael Meeks is doing

This is my (in)activity log. You might like to visit
Collabora
Productivity a subsidiary of Collabora focusing on LibreOffice support and
services for whom I work.
Also if you have the time to read this sort of stuff you could enlighten
yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here.
Failing that, there are all manner of interesting things to read on
the LibreOffice Planet news
feed.

- Up at 3am - couldn't sleep; started to pull
6400 messages. Filed my (tiny) updatedb patch in SuSE bugzilla
to stop updatedb swallowing my battery when not on AC power.
- Not amazed that
slashdot manages to re-hash '$1 per ton/mile' into orbit
'$1 per ton', rather a difference. Mail pull took 1:27 for
6482 messages; it looked faster than I remember, but ...
- Bed ~6am, up ~9am; poked at my D/BUS patch; Sean
left for Stanstead.
- Amazing argumentation on the xdg list from Havoc along
the lines of: we should not do this easy, and extremely useful
fix, because it's not perfect: we should apply repeated pain to
the users'/ ISV's testes until they come and help the (planned)
complete re-write of XYZ. The encouraging thing from this is
I suppose that in the past eg. wrt. Bonobo, I would have taken this
(IMHO fairly nonsensical/incomprehensible stalling position) as
cast-iron proof of FUDding to slow adopton of something NIH; however,
since there are apparently no burning issues of passion / control
anywhere with this simple draft spec., one can only conclude that
there is some sort of unhelpful, underlying perfectionism. [ of
course, something un-written is always more perfect than something
that exists - we should always wait / never release etc. but ... ],
nice to have this insight.
- Back-ported an OO.o string comparison speedup, that
apparently helps a lot; committed my ooo-build make improvements.
More 2nd pass mail chewage. Did a libbonobo-2.6.1 release, with
Arvind's fix for the vicious life-cycle bug causing even more acute
grief than normal with hostname changes.
- Really great to see all the evolution contributions
from all and sundry on the evo-hackers list. Had a profoundly
aweful debugging experience with OO.o - just shockingly bad;
building a few modules with debugging symbols seems not to work
at all anymore (a SuSE 9.1 feature?).
- Knocked off, J. drove us down to Hove, chatted to
the parents, bed early.
My content in this blog and associated images / data under
images/
and data/
directories are (usually)
created by me and (unless obviously labelled otherwise) are licensed under
the public domain, and/or if that doesn't float your boat a CC0
license. I encourage linking back (of course) to help people decide for
themselves, in context, in the battle for ideas, and I love fixes /
improvements / corrections by private mail.
In case it's not painfully obvious: the reflections reflected here are my
own; mine, all mine ! and don't reflect the views of Collabora, SUSE,
Novell, The Document Foundation, Spaghetti Hurlers (International),
or anyone else.
It's also important to realise that I'm not in on the Swedish Conspiracy.
Occasionally people ask for formal photos for conferences
or fun.
