Up lateish; quick breakfast, the uber-slow laptop manages to take 100secs to cold start OO.o, and ~45secs warm; gedit takes 20+secs cold, & 4 secs warm. Installed bootchart, and played with that - looks good.
Poked at the find-interposing-uses tool - quite easy to find lots of bad behavior it turns out - gtk+ eg. opens all it's modules (many of which define random duplicate symbols) into the global symbol search space, slowing down symbol lookups & creating problems. Wrote some thoughts for JJ.
Filed 3 OO.o interposing related bug reports - just some cut/paste badness it seems. Sent a batch of problems off to the evo. team. More interesting things: why does /usr/lib/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so export 'strchr', 'strrchr' and 'strlen' symbols ? hopefully Macromedia know.
Distraced by chasing an 100% CPU chew bug affecting evo / gnome-settings-daemon / nautilus - looks like an xsettings issue; they just sit there spinning the glib mainloop. Set gtk+ building to add debug. Looked over proposed new a11y interface changes. Mailed Paolo wrt. gedit plugin symbols.

finterpose also makes it easy to see the use of the libegg mind-set around the place:

. Mailed the gstreamer guys too. So far not found a single genuine/deliberate use of interposing in the whole of Gnome / OO.o: clearly not that critical a linker feature.
