This is my (in)activity log. You might like to visit
Collabora
Productivity a subsidiary of Collabora focusing on LibreOffice support and
services for whom I work.
Also if you have the time to read this sort of stuff you could enlighten
yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here.
Failing that, there are all manner of interesting things to read on
the LibreOffice Planet news
feed.

-
Up earlyish, pottered about - discovered a router
collet extension in the garage that solved my curious
not-fitting problem: nice.
-
Got the robot lawn-mower back into action: now
without a garden full of windfall apples: nice.
-
J. out to YFC prayer lunch. Poked at work backlog,
caught up with H. and E.
-
Out for dinner to The Pantry with J. -
lovely.
-
Sync with Dave, caught up with mail and planning
backlog. Enjoyed Mike's TTT on VclPtr bits while eating
lunch.
-
Several hour proposal meeting, sync on new
partner, call with another partner - fun. Caught up
with admin backlog.
-
Out to Wetherspoons for a Churches Together men's
curry - good to see lots of the lads
-
Up early, tech-planning call, sync with Lily,
snatched lunch, sync with Miklos, more planning, admin
and estimation.
-
House group - Lent course on the Desert Fathers.
-
Sync with Dave, then Anna & Timur, then
Davide, Mathias, Miklos, Pedro, Skyler & Andras.
-
Published the next strip around the problem of what
public statements to make as a community:
-
Sales engineering, sync with Oliver &
Thorsten, worked on estimation, catch up with Keith,
worked late.
-
Up early, caught up with admin. Longish planning
call. Sync on CP Germany's final merger pieces.
-
Sync with Laser, lunch, interview in the
afternoon, more admin, worked late.
-
Up early, encourging meeting with new partner
in the morning, worked in taxi & on flight back.
-
Up earlyish, off to All Saints with J&A.
Back for a pizza lunch together.
-
Rested, and watched All Quiet on the Western Front
-
Taxi to STN - flight to Milan, taxi, hotel late.
-
Relaxed somewhat, tidied the garage, hacked
a bit. Went for a walk with J. and H. by a farm.
-
Anne over to stay, and David for dinner -
had a nice time together.
-
Up earlyish, poked at some code in the taxi,
and on the train. Interesting call with Alvaro on the
train.
-
Eventually home, more on-the-train hacking space.
J. picked me up, dinner, bit more work in the evening.
Call wiht Eloy.
-
Up too early, taxi to Cambridge, train to Kings
Cross, Eurostar to Paris.
-
Got some time for hacking on the train, poked at
timezone horrors - copying 1800+ tiny files (total
size ~2.5Mb) into stacked file-systems left and right
seems madness, particularly since we already ship a
duplicate timezone database in an embedded ICU. Should
speedup jail creation time nicely, and reduce per-doc
memory footprint in the copy case.
-
Encouraging day of meeting CIOs, and other FLOSS
luminaries - lots of fun and interest. Great dinner in the
evening.
-
Sync with Dave. Catch up with Joao, Timur & Anna.
Lunch. All Hands call.
-
Published the next strip inspired by just one of
Northcote Parkinson's insights in his epic management
book: Bike Shedding:
-
Poked at code and admin left and right until late,
packed for Paris tomorrow.
-
Planning call, sync with Laser, lunch. Sync with
Andras, monthly mgmt meeting.
-
Got to some design & coding for COOL 26.04 - nice.
-
Up rather early, back-to-back 1:1 calls, marketing
content call. Watched Michiels' FOSDEM keynote, chunk of
company admin.
-
Up too early, All Saints, good to spend time with the
church family.
-
Home for pulled-pork lunch, slugged variously together.
-
Up late, plugged away at work, bought some
flowers and chocolates for J. More work.
-
J&M. home at lunch time, out for a walk.
Spent a while organizing the garage & binning
un-needed things left and right.
-
Some more hacking while E. had a Galentines
party with her friends.
-
Up earlyish, out for a run with J. worked on
valentines day card(s). J. left to Aldeburgh; poked
at some work here and there.
-
Drove to Ipswich for Bruce Griffin's funeral,
lots of mourning, good eulogy from Suzannah, readings
variously and organ from H. The end of an era.
-
On to The Wentworth Hotel in Aldeburgh for a
reception, talked with the family and friends variously.
Drove home, dropped H. & N. at Cambridge North.
-
Slugged with E. watched a silly movie.
-
Up early, mail, tech-planning call, sync with Lily,
lunch, catch up with Rash, sync with Laser, then Pedro.
Plugged away at some bits in the evening.
-
Home group in the evening.
-
Up early, sync with Dave. Eye test at some
length: all good. Sync with Mike, design call with
the team. Popped into the sale call.
-
Published the next strip on why doing something now
generally beats doing something wonderful later:
-
Train to London for partner meeting, dinner,
back by train extremely late.
-
Up early mail, planning call. Sync with Laser,
FOSDEM retrospective - improvements for next time.
-
Lunch, sync with Andras & Anna, screenshare
with Miklos, poked at orginal-suffix auto-superscripting
leaking over newlines somehow.
-
Chewed back through post-FOSDEM mail and actions.
-
Up early, breakfast with the family, mail chew,
bid 'bye to Anne. Staff & partner calls all day.
-
H. cooked a fine dinner, back to work.
-
All Saints in the morning with N. singing, lovely.
Caught up with people afterwards.
-
Back to see Anne, S&C, A&J arrived - and
out for a rather fancy afternoon tea at the Bedford Lodge
to celebrate Anne's 90'th - fun.
-
Relaxed in the evening - watched Second Hand
Lions together, great speech.
-
Up late, unpacked, cleaned, got through some admin.
Caught up with a bit of E-mail, H. & N. back from skiing
lovely to see them again.
-
At some stage it turned into the next day,
arrived at Frankfurt, then Köln, then Brussels.
-
Mixed sleeping on trains, and working in the
cold between them. People complain of the DB wifi -
but it seems great to me, I'd be more interested
in curing the absence of warm waiting rooms at
train stations.
-
J. picked me up from Cambridge (with E.) -
finally home good to sleep in a real bed.
-
Off to the recording venue on the S-bahn in the
snow: romantic and crisp looking at one level - with very
nicely swept pavements.
-
Caught up with the team, recorded tid-bits around
the forthcoming Collabora Online release - fun.
-
Set off for home, queued at the airport interminably
only to find the plane cancelled - snow not so cute. Planned
a marathon series of train connections to get home instead,
and set out.
-
Enjoyed DB's surprisingly good wifi on their high
speed train to catch up with work overnight.
-
Up too early, flight to Berlin. Practiced briefly
for the Nextcloud Hub Winter 2026 announcement video
pieces with Jos & team, feeling rather groggy.
Bed earlyish.
-
Published the next strip on the risks of thinking
too big:
-
More hack-fest-age, gave updates on what people
had worked on. Started fond farewells to people. Out to
stock up on meds for the team for post-fosdem illness.
-
Dug more through admin backlog, so many good
things going on. Dinner with Tor, Fridrich. Evening
drinks with Laszlo.
-
Hack-fest much of the day, great to see new people
coming along with ideas and eagerness to hack on things;
dug out some code pointers to help.
-
Spent some time planning interactions with Stephan
for on/off-line editing. Out for lunch together, and back
to some hackery and admin catch-up from travel, and seeing
what other people are up-to.
-
Dinner on the eighth floor with the hack-festers.
-
Up too early, breakfast & off to FOSDEM with
another large batch of beavers. Wandered the streets
chatting to old friends and distributing branded goodness.
-
Enjoyed Michael Stahl's (too) short talk on the
trials of using CRDTs for peer-to-peer live comment editing.
-
Out for a nice Collabora Office dinner with team +
some friends.
